Knobby 9 to 5 Endurance XC

Set at the base of 8,310 foot Jug Handle Peak lies Jug Mountain Ranch- a small but incredible gem in the treasure trove of Idaho mountain biking.
Headed up by long-time owners and McCall residents, the Carey family is striving to put themselves on the map as an ecologically responsible destination for cyclists (downhill, enduro, xc and recreational), cross country skiers, hikers, golfers and those in need of some good R&R. Check them out year round for great food, beautiful trails, and even a few holes of golf (if you're into that kind of thing.)

This year marked the first time Knobby Tires Series organizers hosted their signature endurance event at Jug Mountain Ranch and what a great time it was! Due to slightly increased elevation, thick forested terrain and higher moisture content in the soil, these trails provide a welcome contrast to the hot and exposed desert trails that are more typical of Southwestern Idaho summer fare.

Putting in a "full day's work," solo and team riders pedaled from 9 to 5 on a challenging 8.5 mile lap, each time gaining roughly 1,000 feet before rocketing through some of Jug's signature downhill terrain. Highlights of the day included: racing with Team Eastside Cycles' Michelle Byers in the Women's Open Duo category, rocking through the brand-new rooted, rocky and technical singletrack around the upper reservoir, seeing (and hearing) Eric Zuber rock some serious weather-proof speakers on his fat bike race machine, swapping some downhill lines with endurance and cyclocross superstar Amanda Carey, and of course the fantastic family-reunion style block party at the beautiful clubhouse after our "work hours" were clocked in.

As always, thanks to the Knobby Tires crew for a great event, to my race partner-in crime Michelle Byers for an awesome ride, and of course a thank you to all of you for checking in!
